The man sleeps in

It will be a lazy morning for us. Late afternoon we will head to B’s mom’s for a superbowl gathering.

How goes the friendship with Jesus? My Lenten read arrived before we left. I chose the GKChesterton one. He always makes me think. In actuality if one just added prayer to their life Jesus would be happy. We get so busy we sometimes think he can wait. He’s been waiting for a long time now. It really is time for us to get serious about our salvation. Lent begins on Wednesday.

Vacation2…Day #5

Pleasanton, Tx…

Birthplace of the Cowboy, home of the Longhorn Muesum, where Willie Nelson was a DJ, and where Sen. Pete Flores comes from.  Its motto is “City of Live Oaks and Friendly Folks.”  I can attest to the motto being true.  It was one of the first things we noticed.

Sprinkling here today.

The smell of freshly mowed grass hangs heavy in the air at the Velario Station at the jct of 37 & 59.

Beeville, Tx… Albert T. Bontrager’s Combination Store, nice visit with Albert and Simon. Fresh picked 🍅 coming back with us along with Frog Jam and Raspberry Jam.

Whataburger with H&H

River Park

We’ll top off our day with Shaved Ice from Poppy’s.

Then the man and I will crash for the day.

The man off to mass. I’ll catch it @ 7am.

Vacation2 Day#4

Finally found the red door

The Red Door

My gggggg grandfather, who was good friends with Chief Falling Rock, lived in a cabin on the bluff in the woods overlooking the river. Or so that’s the story told for years to our children on car trips. Mainly to keep them searching for the door while we drove.

I am sooo glad we came here! Church St. Andrew’s, IHOP, Whataburger, and a shaved ice stand. How could a retired person want more?

Found an absolutely wonderful resale shop (Bluebonnet Exchange) https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100078723072406 friendliest people behind the counter. I knew immediately it was my kind of place when the clerk mentioned I probably had to keep my eyes on the man. She read him like a book.

Lunch at Texas BBQ and supper at IHOP

Vacation #2… Day #3

Interesting cloud formations in the Choctaw Nation @ Calera, OK. Shaped like a long cigar.

Pot is legal in OK. Weed shops appear to out number grocery stores and gas stations.

Anna, Tx… no lower fuel prices here. Unleaded 2.79 diesel 3.87

Madisonville, TX… great lunch with Richard. It had been too long. “Buc ee’s” is going to be so fun in DeForest, WI. Love the one here.

Whizzerville really??

Pleasanton, Tx… we have arrived. Mom & Pop Motel close to D&B’s. We’ll be here till Monday morning. Will be nice to be in one spot for a couple days.

Vacation#2… litter in the road

Trash and road debris in OK is as bad as it was in Kansas City. I do not understand how/why anyone would not be embarrassed for their city/or state. When one enters a state, the condition of the roadway lends impression to the condition of the state. Slipshod, uninterested, lazy, uneducated, and unconcerned are words that come to mind when I see highway trash piled this high.

Our state is not perfect in the trash department, but NOTHING like this. In comparison, we are pristine.

On to finding solutions…

Work teams, clubs, groups, families, inmates, companies, and individuals could be challenged to help with clean up. Street crews could be called out by enforcement for large items. Half a roadway shutdown for cleanup may just get people interested in getting it done. There is nothing like being at a snail pace to recognize an issue… ticketing/fining of litterers.

Perhaps just common sense… increase in licensing fees with the increase noted as road clean up. Educating the young and old ref litter may also help.

Guess I have spouted off enough.

Lamoni quiet

No coffee

Awake too early, forced myself back to sleep

Again, I ask why motels… 1) use children toilets, 2) place them too close to the wall, 3) use tiny pillows, 4) have no blankets, 5) have loud bathroom fans, and the list goes on. The answers, I am sure, are all cost related.

SB continues. Who knows where we will end up today.

Thoughts of stopping in Chillicothe, MO to visit the Hughes (G’ma Katheryn’s maiden) side of the family cross my mind. But we will probably pass on it. Although it is only 73 miles from here and in the right direction.
