Our sympathy goes out to the family of EM who passed away on the 12th from heart failure. May he rest in peace.

Today is a fast day.

This Lenten season we are doing the devotional called Lent & Easter, Wisdom from GK Chesterton. It is proving to be thought-provoking. As I look back on our child-raising years we had always made it important to pray a family rosary together. I have memories of all the children in pj’s in the early morning before school gathering to pray as a family. I cherish those moments. I hope they do too.

1778 hrs of intermittent fasting, still slowly losing, the loose skin is driving me crazy. Still have issues drinking enough water vs living in the bathroom. Still not getting all the steps in but doing what I can. This is not a bad way to lose weight, it is just slow. Which I guess is how I put it on so perhaps a good way to take it off.

Need to take the library book back and get another. Drop off the mail while out and about. Pack for leg 3 of the great adventure.

Know you are prayed for.

Made it home by 2 yesterday afternoon. Unloaded the car, and started the laundry. The man headed to Clucker’s to have the car checked. That fan noise that sounded like a jet taking off had stopped yesterday morning but the vehicle still needs to be checked out today before we head to the next leg of our vacation weather permitting. Would hate to break down in South Dakota.

This trip has brought to the forefront the need for communication in marriage. We will celebrate 50 years soon. During those years at points (although married) we seemed to be single in thought and direction. As we walked down memory lane on this leg of the trip we realized what fun we had together and remembered those important turning points in our relationship with each other. Work and children seemed to place us in different times and spaces. My advice this morning is to keep couple-time every day, even if only 5 minutes go over the day with each other, and iron out any issues that reared a prickly head. Take a moment to see the world through your spouse’s eyes as well as your own.

So very grateful no family was injured in yesterday’s shooting in KC. This brings to mind a road sign seen in Buchanan Co that said… “Have you found Jesus yet? I am waiting for you.”

The car needs washing again… that will happen late afternoon on our way west. Meanwhile, a good vacuum doesn’t hurt anything.

2017 Ford Expedition

The voice is totally and completely nerve-wrecking… finger nails on a blackboard nerve wrecking.

No where close to getting placement right on the map.  No, I refuse to pay for a one-time update of $150 with no guarantee that her voice will be human instead of a screaming banshee.

One also has no guarantee of the advance notice of a turn.  Currently she gives about 10 seconds which we all know isn’t enough time to come off the on ramp cross 8 lanes of 70mph traffic at rush hour in Dallas to take the left ramp down to the next road.

Google maps on a cell phone with one intermittent bar is 100% better than Ford Sync3.

However, when you call the 800#, ask for Paris… she works, and her voice would be awesome to hear on a GPS.

Ford… get it together on the GPS.

Vacation #2… Day#9

Super 8, Osceola, IA, nice hot shower, catching up on journal entries.

Quick stop in Dike, havent been here in at least 25 yrs. Still a very clean, tidy, well kept little town.

Dropped off a few things and picked up a few things in Hopkinton at K’s. Poppy didnt even bark.

Today, we headed home to drop 🚗  at Cluckers… aux fans running at jet speed. Nothing else seems wrong.

Fan update… no longer running at high speed. Not a clue.

Note gas in Cashton cheapest we found between here and Texas.

While we wait, laundry and mail catch up.

Hope to start Vacation Leg #3 on Friday.

Osceola has the hum of traffic from the interstate

Still chuckling to myself over last night’s visit with J&D could have been there lots longer but the patrons were sort of looking at us and shaking their heads. Perhaps we laughed too loud.

Ash Wednesday… abstain from meat… keep your eyes on your own paper. Tx you for that one Mary C.

Valentine Day… in the modern world it is for lovers, it wasn’t always. Check out the article at thepioneerwoman.com along with other fun Valentine Day things. Wikipedia also has a good history on it.

Off on the next drive

Vacation2… Day #8

Our morning began in Dallas with an awesome breakfast at Rafe & Rachel’s.

Next, stop Tulsa to meet Sessi and give hugs.

We made our way to KC, where we met Joe & Donna at Whataburger. Fun time catching up and laughing so hard. I’m certain the staff thought we’d escaped from somewhere

Finally landed in Osceola for some sleep.

It was a good day.

Happy Birthday Sessirae! Hope your day is wonderful.

Today’s reading James 1:1-11 hit the spot for me, so I’m sharing it with you as well as the footnotes. This was taken from the NAB on the USCCB website.
1 *James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, greetings aII.
The Value of Trials and Temptation
Perseverance in Trial.
2 b Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials,*
3 for you know that the testing* of your faith produces perseverance.
4 And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom,* he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.c
6 But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind.d
7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord,
8 since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways.
9 The brother in lowly circumstances* should take pride in his high standing,e
10 And the rich one in his lowliness, for he will pass away “like the flower of the field.”f
11 For the sun comes up with its scorching heat and dries up the grass, its flower droops, and the beauty of its appearance vanishes. So will the rich person fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

Footnotes:

  • [1:1] James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ: a declaration of the writer’s authority for instructing the Christian communities; cf. Rom 1:1. Regarding the identity of the author, see Introduction. Dispersion: see Introduction.
  • [1:2] Consider it all joy…various trials: a frequent teaching of the New Testament derived from the words and sufferings of Jesus (Mt 5:10–12; Jn 10:11; Acts 5:41).
  • [1:3–8] The sequence of testing, perseverance, and being perfect and complete indicates the manner of attaining spiritual maturity and full preparedness for the coming of Christ (Jas 5:7–12; cf. 1 Pt 1:6–7; Rom 5:3–5). These steps require wisdom (Jas 1:5).
  • [1:5] Wisdom: a gift that God readily grants to all who ask in faith and that sustains the Christian in times of trial. It is a kind of knowledge or understanding not accessible to the unbeliever or those who doubt, which gives the recipient an understanding of the real importance of events. In this way a Christian can deal with adversity with great calm and hope (cf. 1 Cor 2:6–12).
  • [1:9–11] Throughout his letter (see Jas 2:5; 4:10, 13–16; 5:1–6), the author reaffirms the teaching of Jesus that worldly prosperity is not necessarily a sign of God’s favor but can even be a hindrance to proper humility before God (cf. Lk 6:20–25; 12:16–21; 16:19–31).
  • a. [1:1] Jn 7:35; 1 Pt 1:1.
