1st mow of the season

We could use a bailer!  Actually we could use a nice young person who wants to earn mowing $$’s.

Had to mow before we set things out for the Villagewide Garage Sales this weekend.  I question if we will ever get things set up for this sale.

Flowering vines have shot up.  1st asparagus pick happened. Had to plant the lettuce and spinach in large planters to keep them away from the rabbits.

Half finished projects are all over.  If we died tomorrow, our children would be snowed under with half finished things.

Maybe we’ll get lucky, and a nice guy who knows and enjoys projects will come along and make us an offer we can’t refuse for this place.  We’d be able to leave behind a garage full of already purchased supplies.

While I’m on the wishful thinking end of things, perhaps there’s someone out there in need of an expedition with 290,000 miles on it or a 350 dually.. sigh, the man will shoot me when he reads this and complain about me trying to get rid of his toys.

I can smell supper.  Hopefully, it will be ready when the man returns from the store.  We’ve had a long day but productive.

Yesterday late afternoon as I drove N on I35, in Missouri, a little white coup with Colorado plates zoomed past and in a blink of an eye was nothing but a dot in the distance. That car was moving!  45 mins to an hour later, we noticed a MO State Trooper had stopped him.  We continued our journey N.  Just a few miles S of Des Moine, IA, I noticed headlights coming up quickly. Lo and behold the little white coup from CO pasted us again.  Seriously?!  Must not have learned a thing was my thought.  We continued N bound on I35 passing thru DSM and Ames when who was once again along the side of the road in front of flashing red and blue lights. Almost immediately, I thought to myself , ” He got caught again,” deserves whatever he gets. Today, I ponder my quick judgment, relating it to how very many times God has caught me in the same day speeding to get to heaven, hoping no one notices I’m not following the rules as I go. Always with the thought, I’ll deal with the rule breaking if/when I get caught and hope God understands when I get there.

And suddenly… SPRING!

Of course, this really means weeding season has arrived. The bees are working hard on the plum tree and Rose of Sharon shrubs. Tulips, daffodils, holy hocks, flame shrubs, resurrection lillies, etc have pushed their way to sunshine and heat.

I am always amazed at new life in spring. Why is that? Christ has told us all things are new thru him. What dies comes back to life. We just need to believe, pray, and wait for God’s time frame. All things come to those who wait.

Independence has traffic

The drive back has gone well. Made good time. Missed most of the rain.

Our morning will be sleep time. Then we’ll start setting up the garage sale.

More later.

It’s afternoon now, got a few hours of sleep, ate a sandwich for lunch. As I ate I read today’s reading

MY PEACE I give you” that what Jesus said. Not just any old peace but his. His peace, the one that passes understanding. How awesome is that! You have received and can feel the peace given to Jesus. The only thing required of you is belief. I know it’s hard to believe… but true. So step back a bit from the chaos, quiet your mind, and reach for the peace of Christ that passes understanding.

Know you are prayed for.

Sweetwater busy

The man and I are slow to rise this morning. We had a lovely evening with old friends here in Sweetwater. It’s hard to believe 30-plus years have passed since we called Texas home.

We’ve 800 plus miles to go before we see home. The caddie has done a fine job getting us where we need to go.

I’m hoping to finish putting on the border of a friend’s afghan as we drive today.

A paperboy has been abducted in South Texas.

Monday morning, phone calls have already begun.

Can anyone tell me who this is? I believe it to be a statue of Mary, but I would love to know more.

Know you are prayed for.

Sierra Blanca is peaceful

We slept in again or at least it feels like it. At home, it’s our normal waking time.

Just heard this morning that our G’daughter Keziah A and the Wartburg College choir were honored to sing during Mass at St Peter’s Basilica on May 6. May it increase their desire to know and serve the Lord.

Congratulations to Haley C who will receive her 1st Holy Communion today at Our Lady of Miracles. We are honored to be here with her, not only as her G’parents but as her Baptismal sponsors. She’s grown into a beautiful young lady.

Proverbs 8: 17 I love them that love me: and they that in the morning early watch for me, shall find me

God came to Solomon in a dream (1Kings3:3-15) and told him to ask for whatever he wanted. Solomon humbly asked for Wisdom to lead God’s people. Here in Proverbs we find that all of us can find wisdom if we look/watch for it. Wisdom is the first and highest gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the perfection of faith, through which we come to value properly those things we believe through faith. It is applying that knowledge into our everyday life.

Our time here in Sierra Blanca will soon be over. Our long trek home will begin. We will take the time to meet old friends 5 hrs down the road and catch up with the past 30 yrs.

Send up a few prayers for our safe return to the North Country.

Know we are praying for you.

The Ranch in bloom…

My son D has 120 acres of rock, sand, gullies, cati, and rattle snakes. Today, many things were in bloom. The view was breathtaking. The border patrol is working overtime. Yesterday, at this check point, 200 entered legally and probably more than that illegally.

This is not forgiving country. Water is scarce, heat can be unbearable, shade isn’t often found. Yet, trash is everywhere from humans who passed through.
