Meditations for Each Day, pg. 430, Outward Appearances
Men of the world look at the outward appearances of things and are often satisfied with that. They desire and long for physical beauty, wealth, high social status and honours. It does not matter to them if beneath this splendid facade there are concealed a mean and impoverished spirit, a corrupt and dishonest heart, an egoism indifferent to noble ideals, and an astuteness intent on ousting potential rivals. All this is unimportant as long as they are successful and can keep up appearances. We tend to live for what others think and say about us in other words for external appearances. St Augustine contemplated this haughtiness and ostentatiousness of so-called great men who assumed airs of demi-gods. “Take away the arrogance and what are men but men” God is interested in the soul, not in surface appearances. To which side do you belong?

What a fun day it was yesterday shopping with a couple of friends.
I found the back splash I wanted for the kitchen.
Along with a few other things I’d been looking for. Gotta love a bargain.
Today should be another not too busy day. I need a few of those.
From the sounds of things, the SUV is slowly dying, at 316,000. miles it is to be expected.
So I will begin the search for a smaller 4-wheel drive vehicle that is up off the ground. Can’t do those low to the ground things. If you have a clue as to what I should be looking at let me know.
This change will also be the end of my driving days around the Amish community.
