We remember Leland Slater (my biological father), who died in the Gila Wilderness while guiding a hunting party in 1989. May he rest in peace.

Better today; congestion is almost gone, lungs are clearing out, and temperature is normal. Will spend another day doing as little as possible. This sleep issue persists, so that’s what I’ll do: sleep as much as possible.

OUTAGAMIE, WINNEBAGO, CALUMET, DODGE, KENOSHA, MILWAUKEE, RACINE, FOND DU LAC, SHEBOYGAN, WAUPACA, & WAUSHARA will no longer be covered by Common Ground Insurance due to rising health care costs and unexpected shifts in the use of health services beginning Jan 2026. According to Common Ground, these unexpected shifts are an increase in the use of health services and a decrease in the use of health insurance. These shifts make it hard for Common Ground to operate sustainably. Currently, there is a 2,263 shortage of doctors in WI. Currently, there are no RN to Patient staffing regulations in the State of WI.

I am better, not great, but better. Still have a temp, but the chest congestion is almost gone. Have spent the past 2 days sleeping, as in sleeping most, if not all, the time between hacking. No desire for food, and if I drink any more water, I might just burst.

I’m putting “The Sound of Silence” by Karen Hall on my book list to be read. It was recommended by a friend, looks interesting.

Ebony had her first bath, no issues at all. My mouth was hanging open. Who would have guessed this ferel kitten would end up being such a great companion?

Charlie Kirk has created quite the stir; his death has created another on a larger scale. I liked what he had to say (although I didn’t listen often) because I share the same mindset as he did. There are right and good things, there are flat-out wrong things, and there is a gray area that needs to be examined thoroughly before any decisions are made. 1 Corinthians 6:13
(DR) All things are lawful to me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
(NAB) Everything is lawful for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is lawful for me, but I will not let myself be dominated by anything.
1 Corinthians 10:23
(KJ) All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify.
(ASV) All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.
(AMPC) All things are legitimate [permissible-and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful(expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].
I look at Kirk as admonishing the sinner James 5:20 “Whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.” Admonishing the sinner is not to judge but to be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes.

My response to the editorial…

_________
I’m confused…

What do President Trump’s and President Zelinski’s physical characteristics have to do with their presidencies?

“Working clothes”… President Trump’s working attire is a suit and tie; President Zelinski’s is military wear.  Both are acceptable and functioning attire.

“The Constitution was written by men who knew what it meant to live in a dictatorship.”…  I’m uncertain about your meaning of dictatorship regarding the men who wrote the Constitution.  Great Britain was and is now a Constitutional Monarchy.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Senate and the House have their heads in the sand, regardless of party affiliation.  I further state that “career politicians” need to be replaced by individuals who are subject to term limits, fixed salaries, and retirement benefits (they have no say over), mirroring those of the majority of Americans.

I also want future generations to enjoy life where they are allowed to exercise their right to vote as a “legal US Citizen” for the person they personally believe to be the one best suited for the position, based on truthful information they have gathered and formed their own opinion over.

It is time to do away with hateful innuendos, half-truthed advertising, and turn back to candidates who talk about their qualifications, their experience, their beliefs, and their government plans;  With “NO” follow-up by either party or the news media giving their rendition of what was said.  Americans are intelligent enough to understand what is being said without different factions gaslighting them.

Interestingly, you quote Pablo Casals, who was from Spain and had an affection for the republic until Franco took over.  He then championed “the National Military Tribunal,” which wanted restoration of the monarchy to replace the republic.  Casals believed in fighting injustices, which he believed to be part of “the capacity to care”.

We are all broken in different ways.  We cannot even pretend to know someone else’s intent.  We can mutually find space and agree that the government is broken.  It needs to be repaired.  Let us begin by recognizing things we can accomplish in our area of the world, reaching out with respect to someone else (although personally not enamored with them), who may very well be the beginning of the change we all long for.
_______

May we all stop and take a moment to pray for the soul of Charlie Kirk, for his wife and children, and yes, even for the perpetrator. May we continue to pray for the two school children in MN, those who were injured, the families of all involved, and yes, the perpetrator.

Take the time to reflect on your life and assess the way you are choosing to live it. Remember your soul purpose is to “Love & Serve God, in this world and the next.” Perhaps now is the time to make the adjustments needed to work towards that purpose.

It’s a bit chilly here this morning in the Wilds. We’ve already seen frost, so the move into fall is upon us. Soon, the trees will begin changing color, and gardens that once flourished will be put to rest for the season. Crops will be removed from the field. Deer hunting will begin. Feeders will be placed for our winter feathered friends. Slowly, the move from busy to fallow will begin. The hope is to slow like the season and become restful, rejuvenating for the new beginning that is to follow. We humans used to know how to slow ourselves down and renew. We have forgotten or given up on doing the one thing that would help… meditative rest.

Good Morning!
Very nice fall fest weekend. Kudos to those who put it all together for our enjoyment.
This week is looking to be manageable; hopefully, I will remember to keep it that way.
The cooler weather is upon us, with a myriad of things still crowding the summer honey-do list. The thought of starting a fall honey-do list is bothersome. Why is it we do that to ourselves? You know, make life so crowded that there is no time to enjoy it or to accomplish maintenance tasks that must be done? Did you know that no verse in the Bible (first published in 1455) says “idle hands are the devil’s workshop” except the Living Bible (which was first published in 1971)? Makes me wonder what was on Kenneth N. Taylor’s (founder of Tyndale House) mind when he wrote it using the Standard version as a reference.

I’m pondering an editorial printed in the Cashton Record last week. I know the person who wrote it, and I’ve never seen that side of her. I found it disturbing. The character assassination is so “NOT” like the person I know. I’ll have to pray about it. Seen below…

The Bigger Man
They stood side by side and the contrast could have
not been more profound. Trump was there with his
signature red tie and comb-over and Mr. Zelensky
stood by his side dressed in his working clothes. Trump
stood over Mr. Zelensky by several inches. Trump also
out weighed the Ukrainian leader by several pounds.
But there was no doubt that Mr. Zelensky was the
bigger man. He was there for the good of his country
and the welfare of his people. He was there for the
release of thousands of Ukrainian children kidnapped
by Russian soldiers. Trump was there just for the photo
and the exposure. He cares not one iota about the
country of Ukraine or what happens to its citizens.
Does Trump care about American citizens? Actions
speak louder than words. There is no doubt that he
strives to be a dictator. The constitution was written
by a group of men who knew what it meant to live in a
dictatorship. Governmental powers were balanced and
divided into three branches to guarantee liberty and
equality to everyone.
Trump has made a mockery of the Constitution. He
wipes his feet on it like it was an old rag. How many
of our rights will he stomp out? This is a concern for
all of us whether Democrat or Republican. Congress
has their heads in the sand. They are supposed to be
working for us. Instead they will go along with any
outrageous plan Trump puts before them.
I want future generations to enjoy life in a civilized
society where they can still vote for the person best
suited to steer our country in the right direction and
rebuild those relationships with equally minded
countries.
Is it too much to ask for a leader who cares about
the people they serve? Pablo Casals said it best: “The
capacity to care is the thing that gives life its deepest
meaning and significance”.

Know you are prayed for.
