Bl. Isidore of St Joseph (De Loor) demonstrated to us the value of serving community in church, society, and all that we do. He never let his cancer limit his work for others.

RIAY Day 279: The Joyful Mysteries

Morning! Another beautiful day is in the making; rain or shine, it will be just what we need. Fall colors continue to make themselves known. Corn and beans are being removed from the fields. Deer are running rampant across fields and roadways. Birds are heading south. Flowerbeds are beginning to shed their seeds, looking weary and faded. Fall is giving its last show before the earth shuts down to rest for the winter. I am looking forward to the fallow time. The time we use to take stock in the seasons that have just passed and make plans for the season that will greet us again. The time to slow down, rest, recoup, reenergize, and repair our heart, mind, and body. A time to lie fallow, soaking in all that you can, from the giver of nourishment. We humans have a tendency to turn our attention away from what our body/mind needs to simply keep running. We exhaust ourselves into oblivion, failing to recognize that the difficulties we are experiencing are due to our failing to take care and replenish ourselves. I recall being told as a child, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” As an adult, I looked for this verse but only found it in Bibles that had been translated into everyday language. Most often, Proverbs 16:26-29 is cited. However, in the translation of scripture I use (DRA/NAB), it cites Proverbs 16:26 as saying “The appetite of workers works for them, for their mouths urge them on.” The resource “bible gateway” search engine sticks on the living bible translation when you query the DRA or NAB, so be sure to click on the link for the right scripture version. Of course, this now makes me wonder what other verses the engine sticks to. So, I suggest that if you are Catholic (or not), use the quote from the USCCB bible search engine. THUS far, there cannot be found “idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” so my advice to you is use the fallow time to replenish and renew your soul.

Yesterday’s wedding was perfect! Simple attire and decorations all pointing towards the Mass. Nothing to distract from the sacrament. The reception was elegantly simple in decoration and food. Once again, focusing on the newly married couple. In my opinion, a perfect celebration. May God richly bless them. And may Mrs. Brown’s HUMUS RECIPE FIND ITS WAY INTO MY INBOX.

Today will definitely be a day of rest.

Candles were lit in adoration for your petitions.

RIAY Day 277: Sorrowful & Glorious Mysteries

Morning!
Headed to La Crosse this morning to have the windshield replaced, go thru the car wash, and maybe get a haircut. Then home to get ready for the wedding today. Looking forward to seeing everyone and hoping the old knee holds out well enough to dance at least one time with the man.

More work was done in the kitchen yesterday. Hard to believe what a little wainscotting can do for the looks of things. Slow and steady is how things work around here these days.

While the mind runs around like a hare. Not a good mix most days.

The cough continues to improve.
The windshield will be replaced tomorrow.
Today I am home until 5:15pm, when I will pick up a teacher and take him home. Thoughts of a quick run into La Crosse come to mind, but since I will be there tomorrow morning at 7, it seems ridiculous to make the trip today.
Office work should keep me occupied for most of the day. Bills to pay, letters to write, organizing, and clean-up to do.
Continue to pray for my friends Fran and Levi.
Tomorrow, we celebrate Oscar & Therese’s wedding

I’m up too early this morning and unable to return to sleep. Thankful for an easy day. Workers to and from the workshop and 1 teacher home. The government shutdown continues for the second day. The cough continues, with discomfort in the lung and kidney area. Not surprising with the force of the cough. I rescheduled my dentist appointment for January. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow.

Our Lady, St Dominic, & St Catherine of Siena

In 1212, St. Dominic de Guzman saw the Virgin Mary, who gave him the rosary in response to his prayer for understanding how to combat the Albigensian heresy. St Catherine of Siena had a vision where each prayer became a rose of fire ascending to heaven.

Morning!
It’s going to be another beautiful day here in the wilds.
The trees have begun their journey to fall color and eventually drop their leaves to conserve energy for the winter months.
Reminds me of fall garden work to ready it for the fallow time of winter, where it will rest and conserve energy for the new life of spring.

RIAY Day 273: The Glorious Mysteries
Meditations for Each Day pg. 391: Christian Modesty…We are often obliged, in the ordinary course of living or by reason of our position, to see many things which could be dangerous to our spiritual welfare. There are many ugly things around us, although sometimes externally beautiful, which we cannot help seeing. At home, on the street, in society, almost everywhere, we meet persons and things which constitute a threat to our virtue. What are we to do? We must see, because very often we cannot help it, but we must never stare.

Good Morning!
Today ends the month. How quickly it has passed by. As I look at my to-do list, I realize hardly a dent has been made in it. I could blame it on illness, but although that is a reason, it also goes without saying that I wasn’t fully committed to getting things crossed off the list. I’m finding that those things that I used to do without a thought have now become quite the chore. I dislike realizing I am not able to complete things I would not have given a thought to just a few years ago.
Copy work has been completed and is ready to deliver. I head to Wautoma today with 6 people who have medical appointments. Hopefully, I will be home at a decent time. The man is off to Arcadia.
