Family Reunion Day… Cummings/Hogan, Cummings/Behan… looking forward to a fun day! T-time 8am Filmore Golf Course

In the Catholic Tradition… Road to the Cross… Bacci speaks to this… The way of the Cross is the only road that leads to Heaven. Our Lord gave example. We must ascend our own Calvary if we wish to imitate and follow Jesus. Suffering should be a source of consolation for us. It is useless to flee from the Cross, it follows us everywhere. The best thing one can do is offer to God, the trails of daily life. At times we will meet with exceptionally strong temptation, it may be necessary to impose extra penances on ourselves to better make our way.

“Up–Awake” once again “W.A.Y. T.O. E.A.R.L.Y.” I should be sleeping in, lolling around a nice warm bed but apparently THAT is not an option.

This morning I gather items needed to head off to a family reunion tomorrow. I am nowhere close to seeing that happen.

Please pray for our eldest son who seems to be experiencing a rough time right now. He is feeling left out of the family and doesn’t understand why. Since I have no issue with him I cannot answer his questions. I’m not even sure if he has broached the subject with his siblings frankly, I’m not going there. I have asked them what their issue is and they have declined to respond.

Prayers for our youngest daughter and her husband as they venture out on their matrimonial journey. They are experiencing the normal issues of becoming a family unit. It is hard to remake boundary lines with family once you have married and are committed to your family unit’s health and well-being first. Perhaps that is a subject for future blogging. So if you have any suggestions along those lines feel free to send them to me. Commitment, finance, spiritual life, letting go of adult children, navigating the in-laws, etc.

In the Catholic tradition… What is your dominant passion? You must know what it is in order to combat it determinedly, for otherwise it will lead you into one sin after another until you are eternally ruined. (Bacci pg 285) How to combat it…
*Fervent Prayer
*Daily Examination of conscience
*Weekly (fortnightly) confession
*Daily (frequent) communion
*Avoidance of the occasions of sin/employment of the necessary means to overcome sin.
*Performance of good actions
*Determination to fight and to conquer
There can be no half-measures for the only alternative to victory is defeat.

I don’t know about you, but for me, it is a daily battle and it is necessary for me to do the daily examination. Recently I found & bought a book regarding this. Visit ExaminationJournal.com for more on this book.

Sleep was elusive.

The entire porch was opened last evening. Nice to have that done. Looking forward to spending time out there relaxing with good conversation. Next up- getting the patio in order.

This weekend is family reunion. The man is looking forward to golfing early Sunday morning.

The toner came for the copier… very quickly. Will get those projects done today.

The RNC has been interesting to follow. Another interesting thing on the Democratic side is the push to nominate Biden before the Democratic convention. Who are they afraid will be nominated at the convention if this doesn’t happen before. It’s laughable to think the VP could handle the presidency. She wasn’t able to handle the border when put in charge of it. Actually I’m thinking it is time to cap costs associated with running for office. This out-of-control spending has prevented very good options from running. Maybe all advertisements should be in the form of public service announcements with only the candidates speaking for themselves. Perhaps campaigning should take place on the back of train cabooses with only the candidates speaking for themselves as they traverse the nation. Perhaps localized debates in the small towns of the nation during the trips cross country.

In the Catholic Tradition, we look at Our Passions… Our passions are not essentially sinful. they can open the way to evil, but they can also lead us towards perfection. Everything depends on how we control and direct them. They are impulses which are at the same time valuable and dangerous. It is a hard thing to control and to direct our natural inclinations. It requires perseverance, sacrifice, and the grace of God, for which we should always pray. Let us be vigilant I the control of our passions. As soon as they tempt us to do anything contrary to right reason and the divine law, let us renew our resolutions and implore the help of God. (Antonio Cardinal Bacci)

Excellent PCCW meeting last evening at St. John’s. A few tentative future events discussed as well as update on the yearly fundraiser and tentative date for next year. Next mtg Aug 20, 6pm

In the Catholic tradition… The Voice of God… God speaks to us:
-in created things… stars, seas, mountains, valleys, trees, flowers
-within us… our restlessness and longing, our remorse and appeals, sacred scripture, depth of our hearts
-through his saints… their lives, their words

It will go hard for those who do not listen. God speaks to our hearts (Ps 34:22) Above all, let us listen obediently to his voice from whatever source it comes, and let us do what he advises us.

Village sleeps, so should I

Coffee… blech.

Another restless night. Woke way too early and went to office. Toner cartridge wrong one, sigh, ordered right one. Did what could be done on small copier.

Yesterday the mail brought my new bible cover, I’m loving it! A book called “33 Days to Eucharistic Glory” (not a clue why this came, I don’t remember ordering it) and another called “Lukewarmness-The Devil in Disguise” which is suppose to be earlier version of “Overcoming Lukewarmness” we shall see.

Hot & muggy continues.

In the Catholic Tradition… Entrusting Ourselves to God… is what Bacci discusses today. He says “If I leave myself entirely in God’s hands, my cross will become lighter. My worries and woes will be easier to bear, and I shall not be excessively elated by worldly pleasure.” Can I just say this does not seem to be the case with me, therefore I assume I do not entirely trust God. More to ponder.

In the Catholic tradition… A Life of Fervour… Antonio Cardinal Bacco said, “The man who loves God prays continually and with fervour, whereas the man who has little love for his Creator prays rarely and pathetically. Prayer does not consist primarily in verbal expression, but in the elevation of the mind to God in adoration, thanksgiving, propitiation, and supplication.Love should be the inspiration of our communication with god, for where there is no love there can be no prayer. ” Jesus tells us we “must always pray and not lose heart” (Lk 18:1) We may be working, walking, talking, eating, or sleeping, but whatever we are doing, the love of God can transform it into a prayer.
