Memory Verse Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!

Village is silent

Coffee is good.

The Saturday before Christmas, how did it get here so fast? I suspect it is because we were so wrapped up in the secular world that Christmas is all about buying and receiving presents and attending parties that we neglected to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Today, we are reading Luke chapter 21. https://bible.usccb.org/bible/luke/21

Take a moment to start your day with Jesus.
Day 6 of Bacci’s Christmas Novena “The Silence of the Divine Infant” page 510 of his book. The Infant we adore in the stable at Bethlehem is mute and silent. This silence is chosen to teach us humility & self-denial, to recollect ourselves in the presence of God, the silence of prayer which brings forth divine consolations and inspirations to holiness. It is essential to place ourselves quietly in the presence of God from time to time. He does not make himself heard through the noise and confusion of the world. He speaks clearly to the soul.

Memory Verse Isaiah 53:2-5

He grew up like a sapling before him,
like a shoot from the parched earth;
He had no majestic bearing to catch our eye,
no beauty to draw us to him.
3 He was spurned and avoided by men,
a man of suffering, knowing pain,
Like one from whom you turn your face,
spurned, and we held him in no esteem.
4 Yet it was our pain that he bore,
our sufferings he endured.
We thought of him as stricken,
struck down by God and afflicted,
5 But he was pierced for our sins,
crushed for our iniquity.
He bore the punishment that makes us whole,
by his wounds, we were healed.

I’ve been TV series binging on the CW “61st Street” caught my eye. The series is raw, bold, shocking, enlightening, informative, and although totally made up, it is true. This is what happens and is what no one wants to talk about and does create issues because of it. The main character is an attorney, dying of cancer, who has the ability to reach deep into everyone’s mind and bring them to a consensus. However tragic or uplifting that may be. It allows everyone (regardless of race or creed) to see the other side. My hope ?- enough funding is found to make season 3. Actually, my hope is everyone sits down and watches the entire series (16 episodes), talks about it with family/others, making whatever changes are necessary in their lives/attitudes/demeanors to move forward differently. Make no mistake, it will change you.

Today is Advent Embertide Friday which is devoted to penance. We are reading chapter 20 in the book of Luke, praying the sorrowful mysteries of the Rosary, praying St Andrew’s Christmas Novena, and contemplating Bacci’s Christmas Novena day 5 “The Swaddling Clothes of the Divine Infant“. Bacci likens the swaddling clothes to the ropes Jesus was bound in the garden with, the ropes Jesus is tied to the pillar with, the ropes he was led to Golgatha with, and the ropes that bound him to the cross. Each of which, Jesus submitted willingly to save us–you–me.

Joseph kneels, kissing the forehead of Jesus; they have nothing else to give the Christ child but their love and devotion. Remember the man who looks only for worldly success cannot find Heaven. He will wind up bitter and disillusioned.

Rumor has it the President elect wants to end DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME…

If everyone would send a bright yellow 4×6 post card to their government reps it would let them know who is in favor of doing this.

Put the words. “BACK TO STANDARD TIME” OR ” DOWN WITH DAYLIGHT TIME”  They would know how many want this.

Now is a good time to discuss “forgive”. Gosh it is so very hard to do isn’t it?
The dictionary defines it as https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/forgive
How easy it is to think you have done it and then that little bit of resentment pops up its ugly head and you remember and the bitterness resumes and unless you beat it down and move on comes back full force and once again consumes you. Leaving no peace, no solitude, no joy, no happiness, etc. The holidays seem to bring back many feelings which can destroy the happiness of the moment. Take a few moments to think about what you need to forgive and place it in the hands of Jesus.

3rd Tues of Advent; Luke Chapter 17– Luke talks about Temptations to Sin, Saying of Faith, the Attitude of a Servant, Cleansing 10 Lepers, The Coming of the Kingdom of God, and The Day of the Son of Man; St Andrew’s Christmas Novena (you’ve said it 270 times at the end of today) Are you making a note of blessings received? Today is Golden Nights the color is violet, O Antiphon-Spientia (Isaiah 11:2-3)-O Wisdom that comest out of the mouth of the Most High, that reachest from one end to another, and orderest all things mightily and sweetly, come to teach us the way of prudence!

The foot is almost back to normal. Still a bit painful but so is life. The siding in the upstairs hall is hung. Now onto wall prep for painting. Getting a bit excited by this. The copier service tech comes this morning to clean the machine. An Amish woman is coming to check out a sewing machine to see if it is worth purchase and conversion to treadle. This afternoon I will take a friend around the Amish community for shopping and tonight is Bingo at the Community Center.

Looking forward to it all.

Please add an unnamed to your prayer list… God’s will.

After two days of keeping it up, the swelling on my foot has gone down. Some are still there, and the foot is still painful. We shall see how it goes today. The midwife is home, the mom is in the hospital, and the man is off to Iowa to return someone. Plants have been watered, laundry has been completed, and clothes have been put away. There is one copy job left to do, but it will wait until after the copier has been cleaned tomorrow. Did I tell you I had purchased a home planner? I’m loving it! Everything is laid out on when to and what to do.

As I ponder homemaking I realize that most homemakers have never been taught how to keep a home. They’ve had “bring home the bacon”shoved down their throats since infancy but not many have been taught how to clean, cook, do laundry, plan meals, and basically run a household. This art is being lost in today’s world. Perhaps it is time to revive this time honored position in life.

Proverbs 31:10-31

IX. POEM ON THE WOMAN OF WORTH

10 Who can find a woman of worth?
Far beyond jewels is her value.
11 Her husband trusts her judgment;
he does not lack income.
12 She brings him profit, not loss,
all the days of her life.
13 She seeks out wool and flax
and weaves with skillful hands.
14 Like a merchant fleet,
she secures her provisions from afar.
15 She rises while it is still night,
and distributes food to her household,
a portion to her maidservants.
16 She picks out a field and acquires it;
from her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength;
she exerts her arms with vigor.
18 She enjoys the profit from her dealings;
her lamp is never extinguished at night.
puts her hands to the distaff,
and her fingers ply the spindle.
20 She reaches out her hands to the poor,
and extends her arms to the needy.
21 She is not concerned for her household when it snows—
all her charges are doubly clothed.
22 She makes her own coverlets;
fine linen and purple are her clothing.
23 Her husband is prominent at the city gates
as he sits with the elders of the land.
24 She makes garments and sells them,
and stocks the merchants with belts.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity
and laughs at the days to come.
26 She opens her mouth in wisdom;
kindly instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over* the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband, too, praises her:
29 “Many are the women of proven worth,
but you have excelled them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting;
the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Acclaim her for the work of her hands,
and let her deeds praise her at the city gates.

3rd week of Advent–Gaudette Sunday– https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EeSeeWMnlA We are halfway through the Advent season–REJOICE!

Gaudette Sunday

The foot, swelling going down as long as I don’t wear a shoe and keep it elevated. The hand is tingly today, no real pain, just a pins and needles thing. Cpap doing what is it suppose to do. I still hate it but I do it. If my body was a car I’d be looking for a new one, this one has too many miles.

Work continues on the upstairs re-no. Hard to believe the difference it is going to make up there. Lots left to do but we are on track.

We’ve redone many homes over the past 50 yrs. This one has taken the longest and our zip to get things done has dwindled. That may have something to do with our ages but has also had lots to do with the things that needed repairing before we could even think about remodeling as we generally do it ourselves. That nightlight creates quite the light smear, doesn’t it? Behind that door are two more rooms that need to be done. Luckily, only the ceilings, flooring removal, and wall painting. Slow and steady wins the race. This little area will make for a good library/TV area with room for a futon should we need extra sleeping space. All photos will be posted before and after once things are finished.

Today Bacci speaks to “Consolations from God” found on page 502 of his book. Men and animals have some power to comfort and console us but it is nothing compared to the comfort we receive from God and it cannot satisfy our hearts. Worldly honors can also intoxicate our pride and self-conceit, but it doesn’t last very long. Heavenly consolations may sometimes decrease or disappear, in these trials, we can often get through with patience and resignation. Peace of mind will soon return if we stay focused on God.
