Morning Offering given “God of grace, in the story of creation, you made the earth a garden and entrusted it to us to till and to keep, a place of peace and beauty where we could walk with you. In the story of redemption, the one who died for us was burried in a garden, and there you raised him up to greet us with new hope and risen life. In the story of the Church, you tend us as a garden, a place of careful pruning and abundant harvest, where we can work with you. Meet us, we pray, in all the gardens where we go for nourishment, refreshment and prayer, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

The end of the week will find me in Iowa again on Friday. This time with Thanksgiving supplies for DD#1, another overnight with DD#4, then on to a drop off of Hot Chocolate and Russian Tea mix at DS#1, with Morrison, IL, the intended destination to pick up some friends, and home again Saturday.
Yesterday, the billboard just outside the village was renovated with the message, “This Holiday Season, shop local.” I’m thinking that is a great idea. Everyone should consider supporting their local businesses regularly. Shop the closet grocery store (the increase in business will keep them open). Do the same for hardware, appliances, etc. I know the prices are higher, but are they? Considering the time and fuel cost, is it really cheaper? It may also be time to consider a smaller, simpler Christ-centered Christmas.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Each year, I think this Holiday is overlooked in the rush towards Christmas. Have you written your Thanksgiving meal prayer yet? Is the menu planned, and have you asked your guests to contribute to the meal? The whole point of Thanksgiving was the sharing of food and giving thanks. Ask your guests to bring something with them. Have you considered entertainment? Perhaps some singing around the piano, a game of cards, charades, or a craft project, something that will keep them off their phones and tablets and engaging in conversation.
Know you are prayed for.
