Coffee is awesome

Daylight found its way thru the blind shortly after 5 this morning. I was lingering in bed thinking how nice it would be if I could just stay there for a few more hours and recover some of the sleep we had lost driving back on Monday. It was not to be, way too much going on today to lounge around wishing for more sleep.

Have a few errands to run this morning plus get the garage in order for the rummage sale tomorrow thru Saturday.

John 15:  4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. Comforting verse don’t you think? Jesus invites us in and He comes to us. Where he fills us with peace, bestows grace, pours out love, and gives us strength to keep on. His gifts to us help us pray, and be faithful in our marriage and friendships, we are moved to repent/reconcile with those we have hurt and we joyfully serve others. Sounds like an idyllic life. However, we know that forming a friendship with Jesus is anything but easy. satan (yes he is real and does mess with us) works very hard to steal that peace and tranquility from us. He is a manipulator and a liar, stopping short at nothing to interfere with our union with Christ. This is why we must daily choose to unite ourselves with Christ taking comfort in the grace he pours on us to remain strong in him.

1st mow of the season

We could use a bailer!  Actually we could use a nice young person who wants to earn mowing $$’s.

Had to mow before we set things out for the Villagewide Garage Sales this weekend.  I question if we will ever get things set up for this sale.

Flowering vines have shot up.  1st asparagus pick happened. Had to plant the lettuce and spinach in large planters to keep them away from the rabbits.

Half finished projects are all over.  If we died tomorrow, our children would be snowed under with half finished things.

Maybe we’ll get lucky, and a nice guy who knows and enjoys projects will come along and make us an offer we can’t refuse for this place.  We’d be able to leave behind a garage full of already purchased supplies.

While I’m on the wishful thinking end of things, perhaps there’s someone out there in need of an expedition with 290,000 miles on it or a 350 dually.. sigh, the man will shoot me when he reads this and complain about me trying to get rid of his toys.

I can smell supper.  Hopefully, it will be ready when the man returns from the store.  We’ve had a long day but productive.

Yesterday late afternoon as I drove N on I35, in Missouri, a little white coup with Colorado plates zoomed past and in a blink of an eye was nothing but a dot in the distance. That car was moving!  45 mins to an hour later, we noticed a MO State Trooper had stopped him.  We continued our journey N.  Just a few miles S of Des Moine, IA, I noticed headlights coming up quickly. Lo and behold the little white coup from CO pasted us again.  Seriously?!  Must not have learned a thing was my thought.  We continued N bound on I35 passing thru DSM and Ames when who was once again along the side of the road in front of flashing red and blue lights. Almost immediately, I thought to myself , ” He got caught again,” deserves whatever he gets. Today, I ponder my quick judgment, relating it to how very many times God has caught me in the same day speeding to get to heaven, hoping no one notices I’m not following the rules as I go. Always with the thought, I’ll deal with the rule breaking if/when I get caught and hope God understands when I get there.

And suddenly… SPRING!

Of course, this really means weeding season has arrived. The bees are working hard on the plum tree and Rose of Sharon shrubs. Tulips, daffodils, holy hocks, flame shrubs, resurrection lillies, etc have pushed their way to sunshine and heat.

I am always amazed at new life in spring. Why is that? Christ has told us all things are new thru him. What dies comes back to life. We just need to believe, pray, and wait for God’s time frame. All things come to those who wait.

Independence has traffic

The drive back has gone well. Made good time. Missed most of the rain.

Our morning will be sleep time. Then we’ll start setting up the garage sale.

More later.

It’s afternoon now, got a few hours of sleep, ate a sandwich for lunch. As I ate I read today’s reading

MY PEACE I give you” that what Jesus said. Not just any old peace but his. His peace, the one that passes understanding. How awesome is that! You have received and can feel the peace given to Jesus. The only thing required of you is belief. I know it’s hard to believe… but true. So step back a bit from the chaos, quiet your mind, and reach for the peace of Christ that passes understanding.

Sierra Blanca is peaceful

We slept in again or at least it feels like it. At home, it’s our normal waking time.

Just heard this morning that our G’daughter Keziah A and the Wartburg College choir were honored to sing during Mass at St Peter’s Basilica on May 6. May it increase their desire to know and serve the Lord.

Congratulations to Haley C who will receive her 1st Holy Communion today at Our Lady of Miracles. We are honored to be here with her, not only as her G’parents but as her Baptismal sponsors. She’s grown into a beautiful young lady.

Proverbs 8: 17 I love them that love me: and they that in the morning early watch for me, shall find me

God came to Solomon in a dream (1Kings3:3-15) and told him to ask for whatever he wanted. Solomon humbly asked for Wisdom to lead God’s people. Here in Proverbs we find that all of us can find wisdom if we look/watch for it. Wisdom is the first and highest gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the perfection of faith, through which we come to value properly those things we believe through faith. It is applying that knowledge into our everyday life.

Our time here in Sierra Blanca will soon be over. Our long trek home will begin. We will take the time to meet old friends 5 hrs down the road and catch up with the past 30 yrs.

Send up a few prayers for our safe return to the North Country.

Know we are praying for you.

Sierra Blanca is peaceful but busy

The air is dry here…my body loves that.

Today I ponder “How do we get to know Jesus?”

He doesn’t come with an instruction manual. There are no shortcuts to him. One has to make the journey themselves. The journey can be hard and painful. You will need honesty. There is no prayer that will …POOF…make you intimate friends with Christ. You must do the work, of cleaning out your soul to make room for him. Put away all the toys, and focus with your heart. Listen for the still small voice…ask him to speak to you…tell his you are listening, and do just that. Those nudges telling you to or not to are Christ. That booming voice you hear in your mind…the one you haven’t been listening to because it is telling you to do something you believe is too hard or will take too long or you just don’t want to do…listen to it.

It was back in the ’90s, we’d been foster parenting for a few years. I was a Deputy Sheriff for the Dubuque Co Iowa Sheriff’s Department, I was standing in my kitchen, back to the room, stirring something on the stove. I heard a voice behind me, it said “Quit your job.” I laughed and responded “Oh yea right. You’re quite funny today.” (I thought it was my husband speaking to me) I turned to look at him…seeing no one and realizing at the same time he had gone to work ages ago. The .voice went on to say “I will take care of you, remember the sparrows.” I’d been off work due to a work-related injury for weeks and was just now going back to light duty. I pondered that voice all day. I recognized it as the voice that had spoken to me on another occasion when our second daughter (T ) had decided to run off with some older guy towards the end of her senior year in high school. That time he told me to just let her go, there was nothing she was ready to hear. I would hear him again as the years rolled by, generally at some crisis or turn-point. From experience, I can tell you He can be hard to ignore, and He can be very persistent, to those of us who have a stubborn streak or are afraid to take the next step.

You cannot learn about him or connect with him by following a manual. The only way is to spend time with him, listening.

Know you are prayed for.

The man sleeps, we were up much too late last night

I did not sleep well. I can hear this sound, like an alarm warbling, all night long. No luck in finding it, although I cased the entire house. I can still hear it as I sit here. high, low, high, low long…sending me out of my mind. It must be something with tinnitus because the man hasn’t been bothered by it. Gotta love the golden years.

Rest in peace Aunt Louise (1997)

From the Margin… from the BVM… “Silence and obscurity”, that is what I ask of you. Let the light of the Lord shine through you in your daily duties. Many misunderstand this and think that they must be in the public eye to do great things for God. It is often quite the contrary. Silence and obscurity-as I was in Bethlehem and Nazareth.

Question of the Day… Whose feet are you washing today?

Saint of the Day… St Hilary. Bishop of Arles. He found himself prey to a violent interior contest. “On the one side, I felt that the Lord was calling me, whilst on the other hand the seductions of the world held me back.” and “My will swayed backward and forwards, now consenting, now refusing. But at last, Christ triumphed in me.” I’m thinking many of us today could say things like this about our spiritual journey. As I look at myself I can certainly see it.

Guess I’d best stop lollygagging and get the suitcase packed.

Know you are prayed for.

New month…New week…New day… start again, if it is necessary. Think about what happened/didn’t happen when you went off track. List what you could have done differently to stay on track. I hope you are journaling by now. Remember the sparrows…Luke 12:6-7, Hosea 11:11, Proverbs 26:2, Psalm 36:7, Psalm 40:5, Psalm 84:3, Psalm 139:1-5, Philippians 4:19, Job 12:7-10. It is not limited to your spiritual life.

Make the time to think about what is going on/not going on in your life. Are you happy, sad, stagnant? Are you searching for meaning/ more meaning? Looking for truth? Get that journal out and get started with your search.

Looks like a home day to me. At least until the plows go out.

Have you considered asking the Lord for boldness? Boldness to push back against the fears that may creep into our hearts. Boldness can help you stand up for your beliefs, spread the faith, and conquer fears… Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit and enable me to speak and act with boldness today.

Happy Birthday to Richard A (1975) and Colton L (2010) Hoping your day is awesome!

School is closed in Cashton today. Actually, the entire area is closed today.

I need a new book.
